Turkish folk, classical, and western compositional thought merge together in this unusual and challenging work for solo violin. Two quick-moving movements, Cayir Cimen Geze Gezen'den and Karadeniz Turkusun'den are derived from Turku, a general class of Turkish folk songs. The pensive Saba-Saba and Dik Rast Dik Zirgule are inventions on makams of Turkish classical music, the music of the Whirling Dervishes and the Ottoman Court. "Occassionally one can find music that isolates one technique so as to facilitate concentrating on it...Each (movement) is written in a different scale derived from Turkish music containing one or more microtonally altered notes. The music itself is relatively simple and so the novel pitches are thrown into high relief."-STRINGS Magazine
